ÏãåúÖ±²¥ State Faculty Visit Mexico for COIL Meeting
ÏãåúÖ±²¥ State College faculty members spent part of their summer in Puebla, Mexico to take part in a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) summit. The group also included faculty members from other West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (WVHEPC) institutions and was organized by GSC Associate Professor of Spanish and WVHEPC COIL Coordinator Dr. Megan Gibbons.
GSC Announces Annual Bluegrass Concert
The Annual ÏãåúÖ±²¥ State College Bluegrass Concert will be on Saturday, October 8 at 6:00 p.m. in the GSC Fine Arts Center Auditorium.
Senior Recital is September 16
Mariah Daniels, a Music Education major at ÏãåúÖ±²¥ State College, will be performing her Senior Recital on flute this Friday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium.
Criminal Justice Students Visit London
In summer 2016, several ÏãåúÖ±²¥ State College students and professors took part in a criminal justice focused trip to London. The five day visit saw the students take tours of some of the most iconic sites in the city. Additionally, they were able to go to the Inns of Court, the Royal Courts of Justice, the Old Bailey, the Houses of Parliament, the Tower of London, and on a Jack the Ripper-themed tour.
Orientation Weekend for New Students Ushers in Fall Semester at GSC
Around 350 freshmen arrived on campus at ÏãåúÖ±²¥ State College on Friday, August 19 for the 2016 fall term. ÏãåúÖ±²¥ State College's class of 2020 is made up of students from throughout West Virginia, sixteen other states, the District of Columbia, and Canada.
Barr Announces Final Year of Presidency at GSC
ÏãåúÖ±²¥ State College President Dr. Peter Barr has announced that he will retire from the institution in June 2017. Barr will continue his service to GSC through the 2016-17 academic year.
GSC Well Represented at Upcoming Art Exhibit
Several ÏãåúÖ±²¥ State College artists are taking part in an upcoming exhibit that features participants who have been affected by mental health issues, either personally or through close friends and family members. The show, which is titled ‘Different Voices and Common Experiences,’ will be on display at the Monongalia Arts Center’s (MAC) Benedum Gallery from August 5-27, 2016.
West Virginia Authors to Present at GSC Workshop
Three authors of works set in West Virginia will be visiting ÏãåúÖ±²¥ State College on Tuesday, August 2, as part of a five-day workshop for 25 middle school teachers. The authors will discuss their work and how it relates to connecting subject content and local communities. The teachers of grades 6-8 who are attending the workshop are primarily instructors of reading, social studies, and math. Content material will include historical and informational texts that are specific to West Virginia. Participants will create and share cross-curricular lessons for the various resources they will receive for their classrooms.
GSC Invites Community to Help Welcome Incoming Students
To help the new students learn about the ÏãåúÖ±²¥ community—including local businesses, churches, and other groups that might interest them—GSC is hosting a Community and Campus Organization Fair.
