GSU Alumni Student Hardship Fund

The Student Hardship was created by the ÏãåúÖ±²¥ Alumni Association to assist currently enrolled ÏãåúÖ±²¥ students who experience unexpected financial difficulties due to circumstances that could not have been predicted.ÌýBefore making a request for Student Hardship Fund monies, students should have exhausted all other available resources.

What is a Hardship?Ìý

A hardship is an extreme misfortune to a student for reasons beyond his or her control that prevents them from meeting basic living expenses.

Examples of such events include but are not limited to a death in the family, unusual uninsured medical expenses, losses caused by fire, crime, flood, and/or other disasters, and insupportable indebtedness occurring for reasons beyond the individual’s control.

Examples of items that do not qualify to be covered by the Student Hardship Fund:

• Tuition and fees
• Course materials that would otherwise be covered by the built-in Textbook fee
• Cell phones
• Housing costs (room/board fees, off-campus rent, utilities, etc.)
• Storage costs
• Non-essential expenses
• Health insurance costs of any kind
• Medical expenses for anyone other than the student applying
• Parking costs (permits, fines, etc.)
• Food, personal supplies, general clothing
  • Students experiencing food insecurity are urged to visit the Pioneer Pantry or investigate if they are eligible to receive . Students who need clothing should visit the campus Career Closet or the Gilmer County Community Resources, Inc. Thrift Store located on Main Street in ÏãåúÖ±²¥.

How to Apply

Currently enrolled ÏãåúÖ±²¥ students wishing to apply for the Student Hardship Fund may do so by completing the application and returning it to the Office of Advancement on the first floor of the Heflin Administration Building.
