Jesse Skiles

GLENVILLE, WV – Jesse Skiles has been named Director of Athletic Fundraising at ����ֱ�� State College. His appointment as the newest member of GSC’s Advancement Team took effect January 8.

“I am excited about this opportunity to return home and work at my alma mater. ����ֱ�� is truly a special place with so many good people and I look forward to being able to raise money for athletics here at ����ֱ�� State,” he said.

Skiles, a native of Charleston, West Virginia and a DuPont High School athlete, ran track and cross country at ����ֱ�� State during his college career.

He has coached college track and cross country for 29 years and is officially retiring from coaching in accepting this position.

As a head coach, Skiles presided over two dynasties; the ����ֱ�� teams of the late 80’s and the West Virginia Wesleyan College teams over the last 26 years. In all, his teams have won 64 conference titles and he has been named Coach of the Year 53 times.

On four separate occasions, Skiles’ teams have won all four league titles in the same academic year: 1995-96, 2008-09, 2009-10, and 2014-15. His 1988 ����ֱ�� cross country teams both finished Top 25 in the Nation (Men 19th; Women 25th).

His coaching career ended on a high note as WV Wesleyan won both track titles last spring and the women’s cross country title two months ago.

No stranger to GSC Athletics, Skiles was instrumental in laying the groundwork for ����ֱ�� State’s Curtis Elam Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000, is very knowledgeable in the institution’s history of athletics, and currently serves on the Hall of Fame selection committee.

In welcoming GSC’s newest member of the College Advancement Team, Interim Vice President David Hutchison said of Skiles, “GSC is fortunate to have someone of Coach Skiles’ competence and experience to lead our athletic fundraising efforts. We are very pleased to welcome him back to ����ֱ�� and to work cooperatively with him to increase our athletic fundraising efforts and athletic philanthropic support. I can attest to his passion for our institution and to his knowledge of Pioneer Athletes, past and present.”
