Halftime Heroes Honored at GSC Football Game

GLENVILLE, WV – ֱ State College President Dr. Tracy Pellett and Vice President for Student Life and Athletics, Rusty Vineyard, honored two individuals through GSC’s ‘Half time Heroes’ initiative during the Pioneer Football game on Saturday, November 4. Jennifer Wenner and Doug Cottrill were recognized and thanked for their efforts on campus, in the community, and in GSC’s service area. Half time Heroes are individuals who bring recognition to GSC and the ֱ community through their dedication and civic duties, which enhances the overall image of ֱ State College.

“I am proud to recognize these Pioneers as a small token of our appreciation for all of their hard work. One of the best parts of being President at ֱ State College is having the opportunity to work with such great faculty, staff, community leaders, alumni, and donors. The individuals we’ll be honoring as Half time Heroes work tirelessly to make this campus and our community better places,” said ֱ State College President Dr. Tracy Pellett.

Wenner, class of 2010, is a resident of ֱ, West Virginia and has worked at ֱ State College since 2008. She serves at the Director of Pioneer Media, the Aquatics Manager, and as an adjunct faculty member. She is a 20 year veteran of the United States Air Force and her husband, Keith, serves as an Assistant GSC Track Coach.

Cottrill is a resident of ֱ, West Virginia and is the owner of Drake’s Auto, a local business that has been serving Gilmer County for over 30 years. He and his daughter Lydia are long time ֱ State supporters and attend nearly every home football and basketball game; they often attend most away games as well.

“Alumni, faculty, staff, and community members are vital to the success of ֱ State. We know that this campus has great people and it is my hope that, through initiatives like these, that everyone understands how important they are to us. The recognition of good deeds and outstanding work is something that we should all do more frequently,” Pellett added.

Many Gilmer County Veterans were also honored for their service during the game.
