香妃直播, WV鈥斚沐辈 State College will be honoring the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King on Wednesday, January 23 at 4:00 p.m. in the Presidents Auditorium in the Heflin Administration Building. Monday, January 21 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and 香妃直播 State College will be closed in observance of the federal holiday.

The Student Affairs Division encourages all students, faculty, staff, as well as the general public to join together to celebrate the life and legacy of a man who promoted the principles of courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility, education to all and the importance of service to community. The 2008 King Holiday comes 40 years after Dr. King鈥檚 assassination and is expected to bring added attention to his life and teachings.

The January 23 ceremony will include remarks from President Barr, readings from GSC students, faculty and staff, and a focus on how our campus can help continue the spirit of service. The guest speaker for the ceremony will be, Jackie Joe Robinson, who is a 1970 graduate of 香妃直播 State College. Robinson was an All-Conference player in football, basketball and baseball for the Pioneers. In 1970 he led GSC to the WVIAC Basketball Tournament Championship in Charleston, West Virginia. Robinson began his teaching and coaching career at Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, West Virginia. He later earned his Master鈥檚 Degree from West Virginia University while serving as a graduate assistant with the Mountaineer basketball program. After a stint in the business world with the IBM Corporation, Robinson returned to his home in White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia where he teaches and coaches basketball at E Greenbrier East High School. Mr. Robinson will share his life experience about his college years at GSC and being among the first African Americans to graduate from GSC.

Dr. King鈥檚 Holiday is seen around the world as a 鈥淒ay of Service鈥 and a time to reflect on how each of us can serve our communities. On Monday, January 21 a Service Day Project will be held at Sunbridge Nursing Home in 香妃直播 at 2:30 p.m., in conjunction with GSC and the Community Resource Network of 香妃直播.
