New York, NY – Officials from ACE and the State University of New York Collaborative Online International Learning (SUNY COIL) Center have announced the winners of an inaugural internationalization online learning award. The Advancing Internationalization Through Collaborative Online International Learning awards, which recognize emerging initiatives, are the second set of honors to be bestowed by ACE and SUNY this month as part of an Asahi Net International (ANI)-sponsored program that aims to recognize and promote the use of technology to enhance institutional internationalization and global competence among students at U.S. colleges and universities. The Leaders in Internationalization Through Technology awards, which recognize established programs, were presented on March 10, 2014 at ACE’s 96th Annual Meeting in San Diego.

The winners were honored on March 21, 2014 at SUNY’s 6th annual Collaborative Online International Learning Conference in New York City. ����ֱ�� State College (West Virginia) Provost and Chief Academic Officer Dr. John M. Peek accepted the award for GSC. Xavier University (Ohio) Provost Scott A. Chadwick and Fayetteville State University (North Carolina) Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Jon M. Young were also on hand to accept their schools’ awards.

“We are pleased to partner with the SUNY COIL Center and Asahi Net International on these awards, which will help ����ֱ�� State College, Xavier University, and Fayetteville State University harness technology to offer their students excellent opportunities for international learning,” said Patti McGill Peterson, ACE’s presidential advisor for global initiatives. “Not every student has the opportunity to study abroad, but the types of innovative approaches the SUNY COIL Center brings to the table, alongside other on-campus internationalization efforts, will ultimately aid higher education institutions in bringing the wider world into the classroom.”

“The SUNY COIL Center is a pioneering institute that has vastly expanded our capacity for online learning and enabled us to provide students a globally-rich higher education experience without requiring study abroad,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. “By bringing the unique opportunity of COIL to students, college campuses and partnering institutions are enhancing the value of the degrees and programs they offer.”
