GLENVILLE, WV – A celebration of the inaugural class of the West Virginia Department of Education’s TeachWV Grow Your Own Pathway to Teaching program was held in Charleston, West Virginia on Tuesday, March 28. ֱ officials were on hand at the event to help welcome and celebrate the first teacher apprentice in that program, Jazzlyn Teter.
Teter, who is currently a senior at Pocahontas County High School, will be the first teacher apprentice in the program and will be a ֱ student in the fall.
“ֱ is so pleased to have Jazzlyn joining our outstanding education program next academic year,” said ֱ President, Dr. Mark A. Manchin. “ֱ State’s history of teaching excellence goes back over 150 years, and we know the importance of those classroom teachers. Jazzlyn and this inaugural class of outstanding young people are going to be a vital part of the future of this great state of ours. I look forward to her joining the Pioneer Family.”
“This wasn’t just an opportunity to me, this was a dream. I am beyond grateful to be the first teacher apprentice in West Virginia. And I am so happy to be attending ֱ and majoring in elementary education,” said Teter.
As part of the event, State Superintendent of Schools David L. Roach and West Virginia Board of Education President L. Paul Hardesty welcomed the inaugural Grow Your Own class and praised their dedication to pursuing the education profession.
Those in attendance at the event included the more than 250 high school students enrolled in the TeachWV Grow Your Own Pathway to Teaching program during the pilot year.
