ΟγεϊΦ±²₯, WV – ΟγεϊΦ±²₯ State College (GSC) has established a Conservation Research Center on campus. The Center, under the supervision of GSC Assistant Professor of Biology, Dr. Jeremy Keene, will include the current herbarium, as well as a new propagation facility.

The Conservation Center’s goal is to promote visibility and conservation of poorly-known plant species, such as begonias, gesneriads, and orchids – all of which are housed in the Center. The Conservation Center will also offer opportunities for GSC students to complete research projects focusing on seed germination and tissue culture techniques. The seed germination and tissue culture techniques will be used to understand the best conditions for cultivation.

The campus and community are invited to engage with the Conservation Center during its β€œPlant It! Day” on Thursday, April 8, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. The event will include demonstrations of culture and cultivation techniques and opportunities to learn more about the plants growing within. Free succulents will be available to attendees. Social distancing guidelines will be in place.

Updates, information, and demonstrations can be found on the GSC Conservation Center’s Instagram: .
